Employee Spotlight: Tim Layton, Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance

Meet Tim - a Colorado native approaching his two year anniversary at Vistar. After working in and around Denver post-college, Tim and his wife eventually decided to make the big move to New York. Tim began working as an in-house accountant at Louis Vuitton, but two years later, he found his way to Vistar and the world of ad tech. Nowadays, you can find Tim at every Vistar social event, from happy hour to kickball, and serving in his unofficial capacity as Beer Meister – selecting unique beers to stock the office fridge. Recently, we spoke with Tim to learn more about his role and experiences since joining Vistar.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I have 5 siblings (2 sisters, 3 brothers) and hands down I’m my parent’s favorite.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Being from Colorado, I have an affinity for being outside and enjoy a great craft beer.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

I’m fortunate because I get to interact with all aspects of our business, the complexities of our revenue, the issues we face as a company, and how our decisions impact the financials. I touch every part of Vistar’s operations and get to see how all the cogs of the machine work to produce our products, as well as growth for the company.

Since starting at Vistar, how has your view on out-of-home changed?

I came in with zero exposure to the inner workings of the advertising world. Since starting with Vistar, I have grown to appreciate all the work that takes place to being served an ad, and the length it holds my attention.

Tell us about the best Vistar event you’ve attended

Kickball is great – it's not really an event, but our group takes the outing seriously. It’s a great way to get outside of the office and connect with coworkers you don’t ordinarily work with day to day.

What is one thing you wish you would have known prior to joining Vistar?

Industry experience and knowledge would have been nice but to be completely honest, having no experience in the space has allowed me to come from a unique viewpoint with processes and opinions. I think this is a testament to the Vistar culture, bring in and take chances on people who might not have industry knowledge but can still add value day one, I feel like it promotes a diversity of skill sets that help drive ideas and efficiencies.
