Meet Weiting - a Drexel University grad, she began her career at Rovi and TiVo before finding her way to Vistar Media. After joining the team earlier this year, she’s taken ownership of several projects centered around improving the Vistar's supply platform. In her free time, you can find Weiting checking out newly-opened restaurants in Center City or taking her pup to the park. Recently, we sat down with Weiting to learn more about her role and experiences working Vistar.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself
Weiting: I am a dog lover. I have a Chihuahua mix named Latte who is great, but also very dramatic! Every day when I leave home for work, she acts like she will never see me again and starts pouting. It breaks my heart, but I always make sure she has plenty of treats and attention when I come back!
What’s your day-to-day like as a Software Engineer at Vistar?
The first thing I do when I get to the office is grab a coffee to start my day. After that I check my email and the engineer chat rooms to see if there are any critical issues I need to address. Then I start my projects for the day – typically picking up the sprint ticket and working on it. In the late mornings, we have scrum meetings where the team gathers together and updates each ticket status that they have worked on. After the meeting, I go back to working on my daily projects. In the late afternoons I try to take a break. During breaks I usually like to discuss with my colleagues their work, ask any questions I have about ongoing projects and help others if they are struggling with something they are doing.
How do you get out and explore Philly?
My friends and I are all foodies! Most of my exploring is done when we get together to find the best local restaurants.
What’s the last show you binge-watched and what pulled you into the series?
I am a huge fan of crime dramas and I recently started to watch the show Ozark on Netflix. It is about a financial adviser who relocates his family to Missouri and starts to launder money for a drug cartel. I think what really pulled me into the series was both the thrilling scenes and the well-developed, compelling characters.
Since joining Vistar, what have been the most important things you’ve learned?
I've learned how to work as a member of a team to improve my programming and make the systems I develop more user friendly for customers. One contributing factor to me achieving this is that every Monday the product team gives a presentation to the engineering team on what customers need and have been requesting. This helps me because I can use that information later when refining the systems I am developing.
What is one thing you wish you would have known prior to joining Vistar?
We have a well-stocked snack kitchen with all the free snacks you could ask for! Also, we get free lunch every Monday and Wednesday.
